Whimsy in the Garden

I have been reading articles that recommend ways to sustain ourselves and our communities in these difficult times. We all need refuge from the destructive forces whipping around us. I hope you are engaging in at least several of these suggestions:
Take breaks from news exposure every week.
Don’t view others as “the enemy”
Do what you can to resist authoritarian trends.
But don’t try to do too much.
Spend time with friends.
Laugh.
Create.
Embrace wonder.

This summer I found an activity that helps me step away from the Darkness. Adding a bit of whimsy to our garden makes me smile. I hope it makes you smile, too.
Sitting outside in the shade, I paint rocks, bottles, and signs while listening to Portuguese songs and language lessons. My hands are moving, my mind is gently engaged, and the Darkness is blotted out for a while.
This type of focused attention is known to help reduce stress and improve clarity. Engaging our attention in art, music, or movement improves our cognition, mood, and memory. Focused attention is a balm and a boost.
When you visit us, you may select your favorite whimsical sign, bottle, or rock. We love to share.

I love this post! I saw a little sign in a shop about 30+ years ago that read, "He who has a garden, still his Eden keeps." Thanks for sharing your garden creations and thoughts on self-preservation in dark times.
